4 Things I Want to See in ME: Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda was announced in 2012 by Casey Hudson and then since then we barely knew anything until last year. Last year’s EA Press Conference at E3 showed off a trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda, since then we barely know anything but a few leaks and that it would take place in the Andromeda galaxy, and that Andromeda isn’t something that takes place right after Mass Effect 3. Since the trailer, we saw a leak of gameplay a few weeks back but mainly nothing. I’m sure we’ll learn more of Andromeda at E3 2016 during EA’s Let’s Play Conference on June 12th, 2016.

But for now, I came up with a list of 4 things I want in Andromeda. Let’s delve in!

RPG Gameplay!

All of the Mass Effect’s have been RPGs, but sometimes BioWare have at times shed the RPG away from Mass Effect. The Original Mass Effect had you do side quests and discover planets for XP. In Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 removed this feature of discovering planets and just placed in scanning planets for materials. Side Quests have always been a part of the saga until Mass Effect 3 where most of the quests were fetch and carry. What I would like is that this game is the Witcher 3 of Mass Effect, something massive and with a ton of side quests to do.

The rumors that surround Andromeda is that there is a renewed interest in exploring planets in the Andromeda Galaxy and according to the leak of the plot, that we humans are the enemies as we want to colonize a planet for our survival and the people of the galaxy (Andromeda.) are against us. Colonizing a planet and a new Galaxy? Interesting. I would love that this would give us a sense of scale and exploration that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4 did well at, especially Witcher 3. Side quests should come to you as organic like in The Witcher 3, where you stumbled upon said side quest or quests. BioWare’s roots are in RPGs, embrace your roots!

Hey, Cowboy.

 

The Andromeda galaxy will be an unfamiliar territory for almost all of us that will pick it up. We’re going to meet new people, new squadmates, new romances, and everything new. But what if, we recruited some of the old squad to come on board to take up roles as advisors to our protagonists. I would love to see most of the old squad that survived the end of Mass Effect 3 to return as cameos or come on board. I would love to spend time with the Old Breed and see what they have been up to since Mass Effect 3 and retell their favorite stories of Shepard.

What about that Ending?

I know that Mass Effect: Andromeda takes place at some point in the future, long after Mass Effect 3 and long after the Original Trilogy which means that your choices won’t carry over which is a good thing, but we need an explanation as how humanity fared since the defeat of the Reapers and what has happened to Earth, why are we seeking new galaxies and planets? And how did we get to Andromeda without the Mass Relays, and of course what happened with Shepard? The problem for me is that the ending was too ambiguous, I would like to know what happened to Shepard?  Did he / she lived peacefully after the ending or did he / she died right there on the spot , and now there are monuments and legends told about Shepard. There is an opportunity here , you can choose like an “Origin” by selecting how you wrapped up the Trilogy and wrapped up Mass Effect 3. If you had selected defeat, synthetic, and the other ending. I would love some sort of callback to the Original Trilogy.

Thundering through the Sky.

 

When you take a look and open up the sheets to the Mass Effect Trilogy, you find that your choices are often defined as Paragon and Renegade. Choices were clear-cut and black and white, but no shortage of tough choices to make. I would love to see a revamped morality scale. We humans and the choices we make often can’t be defined as good or bad. Instead choices are often ambiguous in nature much like The Witcher 3’s or Fallout 4’s to an extent. I believe that the game would be better with this implemented then just “Good and Bad.”

Across the Galaxy.

 

The one thing that I love about Mass Effect is that it’s about Humanity at large and how we would handle the galaxy if there were other species in the skies above. And of course the other thing is that Mass Effect makes you wonder if there is anyone else out there in the vast galaxy that we know as Outer Space.  I would love to know more, most likely we’re going to get more info at E3 2016.
