The Road to E3 2017: Rounding up Rumors, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Bethesda’s Conference

Bethesda is a fascinating company to read about, their history is vast and quite unusual as they started out in 1986 as a engineering research and development firm created out of graduates from MIT until 1999 where they became the Bethesda that we know today who develop videogames like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Wolfenstein, The Evil Within, and much more. The founder Christopher Weaver had worked on what would later become Virtual Reality. In 1999, Weaver and Robert A. Altman formed Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks and in 2001, Bethesda Game Studios the studio that would later develop Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Fallout 4 was formed. In 2002, Weaver stopped being an employee and filed a lawsuit against Zenimax but it was dismissed and filed out of court.

In 2004, Todd Howard wanted the Fallout games and Bethesda went out and got the Fallout franchise for him after numerous lawsuits which was settled in 2012, the franchise was theirs for good and Fallout 3 was released in 2008 and Fallout 4 just two years ago. In 2009, Zenimax required id software and between 2009 and 2012, Bethesda expanded their publishing deals and that would become the Bethesda Softworks that we see today, a company that publishes good and innovative games like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Wolfenstein, Prey, etc.

These past couple of years has been quite interesting for Bethesda, especially in 2015 and 2016 where they changed the way that videogames were being revealed with Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2, and Prey being surprised revealed at last E3 although there were leaks. However, this year might be different as  Bethesda hasn’t revealed a game yet and we’re not sure what’s the big Fallout 4 style blowout this year although I do have a feeling that it might be Wolfenstein 2.

Here’s what we can expect in realistic form from Bethesda

Wolfenstein 2, Will it be there?

I would assume so, I would even go as far to say that will be surprised revealed and be the blowout for this year. In my predictions, I predicted that Wolfenstein 2 would be announced for a Spring 2018 release date which I believe is true. The reason why is that this Fall will most likely be packed and Wolfenstein 2 will most likely be forgotten if it releases this Fall as you have Destiny 2, Call of Duty: WWII, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars:Battlefront II, and Crackdown 3 and that’s all the games that we know of as of right now.

Last year, Bethesda teased it with the name being Wolfenstein: The New Colossal which is a reference to a poem written in 1883 which was engraved into Lady Liberty in 1903 so it might take place in the homeland.

The Evil Within 2?

The Evil Within was a game that was decent to me, I didn’t feel anything special but I don’t mind seeing more of it and perhaps this time I might actually like it. So there was a leak a couple months ago in Japan that a game called PsychoBreak 2 was getting a QA Test before Halloween. In Japan, The Evil Within is called PsychoBreak and there’s a theory that the game will be released on Halloween which I see happening.

How about The Elder Scrolls?

A solid, big fat NO. Nah, just kidding but I seriously doubt that The Elder Scrolls VI will actually be there. I don’t think it will be no announcement or no teaser trailer being shown there, there’s alot of speculation regarding The Elder Scrolls VI has of now, has been for some time now but Todd Howard said that The Elder Scrolls VI will arrive in a long time from now, so I’m going to take him at his word.

How about Fallout?

Fallout 4 just wrapped up last September with the final DLC titled “Nuka World.” so that puts Todd Howard’s and Bethesda’s Fallout out of the game, so last time there was a Fallout by a different studio was Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian and released in 2010 which came out about two years later after Fallout 3 so by that past history, there should be a Fallout game being revealed at this year’s E3 but I’m not sure about this time.

Obsidian is out of the game for good, which disappoints me but it’s understandable as someone pointed out that they had several months to work on New Vegas and Bethesda rushed it out hence all the bugs that released with the game but I’m not sure if that’s true. Now, Bethesda Game Studios opened a new studio in Montreal, so perhaps they’re working on a spin-off Fallout game or another mobile game. If I had to guess, perhaps another mobile game in the style of 2015’s Fallout: Shelter but if I had to predict, then it would be probably their own Fallout-game in the style of New Vegas.

If I had to guess realistically, probably not. Fallout will not be there as Fallout 4 just wrapped up.

If not Fallout, then what is Bethesda Game Studios working on?

This is something of a rumor and speculation as of the moment. Going back to 2012 and 2013, Zenimax filed a trademark for something called “Starfield.” and the “Void Engine.” that powered Dishonored 2 last year. Each year, the trademark of “Starfield.” gets renewed by Zenimax and we have speculation that this is Todd’s next big game and some things can be gathered from the name and some things have been gathered about the game or so we think.

“Starfield” is a space RPG in the style of Mass Effect and in the style of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar film from 2014 and that’s all we know. There’s alot of speculation and rumors going around about this game but I think we’re going to learn what this game is all about at this year’s E3. I made a prediction that this game is going to get revealed at E3 and be released this year, which I believe is true although I have a small suspicion that this won’t be true. I really want to know what this game is about.

Wrapping Up

I believe this year’s E3 for Bethesda will be interesting, as we don’t know anything about their conference and what they have lined up and for good reason, last year some parts of their conference was leaked and a few games like Prey was leaked ahead of their conference.

They haven’t revealed any games ahead of E3 which is now a week from today, so I guess we’ll have to wait for their E3 conference and see what they reveal. Come back tomorrow for the last and final part of the Road to E3 series where I take a look at Playstation and see what they have lined up in store.
